FAQ (updated regularly)

Q: How can I get the most out of Movie Finder?

  1. You can switch between the pages for Theatres, Movies Now Playing, and Movies Coming Soon using the icons at the bottom of the screen. You can also use a flick gesture: slide your finger left or right to change pages. Once you become comfortable using the flick gesture, you can get more screen space by sliding the icon bar down to collapse it. Or, you can hide it completely using the option in Menu -> Settings.
  2. You can search for a movie or theatre by pressing the Menu key and choosing the Search option. As a shortcut, you can also just start typing the name (if you have an HTC Magic, long-press the Menu key to show the onscreen keyboard).
  3. Use the favourite theatres (heart icon) and home screen bookmarking features to make sure your favourite venues are within easy reach.

Q: What are "Coming Soon" movies?

The "Coming Soon" pane displays movies that are not yet playing in theatres, but will be released soon.

Information about "Coming Soon" movies is still a new feature, and there may be some differences between the displayed data and your local release dates and movie selections. We will continue to strive to improve the accuracy of this information as we further develop Movie Finder.

Q: What are the heart icons that appear next to theaters?

Use the heart icons to select "favorite" theaters that will be displayed at the top of the list (see example below). Note that the display order will not change until you re-sort the list or re-launch Movie Finder.

Q: Why are there movie poster thumbnails in my SD Card?

Movie Finder caches movie poster thumbnails in the SD card to avoid taking up space on your device and to improve display performance.

If you need to erase the cache for any reason, just go to Settings and press the button labeled "Empty Cache". If you delete the cache, however, it will take longer for your movie list to load next time you launch Movie Finder, and the cache will be re-generated.

Q: A theater is missing!

If a theater is missing or any other data is incorrect, please let us know via the contact form. Please be patient as we continue to work on improving the data feeds.

Q: Why can't I see the movie trailer?

As with all videos, movie trailers require a lot of network bandwidth. If you are experincing poor playback, try pausing the video and letting it buffer a little while. For the best experience, use a wifi or other high-speed connection when viewing trailers.

Q: Can you add ___ feature?

We appreciate feedback in the form of feature suggestions and bug reports. We're already working on the following enhancements:

  • Support for more geographic regions - we're always working on expanding Movie Finder's reach!
  • Showtimes in the future (i.e., movies that are Coming Soon). Done in version 1.3!
  • Viewing movie reviews. Done in version 1.3!
  • Ability to purchase tickets for movies.

Please keep an eye out for updated versions, and thanks for trying Movie Finder!
